Frequently asked Custom Cups Questions

MINIMUM ORDER QUANTITY

What is the minimum order quantity?

Our minimum order quantity is 50 units of pint or half-pint cups for both full and single colour cups.

Please note that the 50 units do not consist of 25 pints and 25 half pints.

We can produce fewer cups, but the unit price increases sharply, which is not beneficial to our clients.

However, we offer a pre-production sample service for £25 (ex VAT) where we produce a handful of cups for you to inspect before committing to a larger order.

We accept BACS (bank transfer) as well as Stripe payments via debit or credit cards. The invoice will include a secure payment link to a safe payment portal for your convenience.

Please note that delayed payment may result in delayed delivery unless pre-arranged in advance.

Unfortunately, we are unable to process card payments over the phone.

ARTWORK

Is there a way to preview what my artwork would look like on the cup?

Before proceeding to production, we create an onscreen visual on a 3D template, known as a print proof. This visual or print proof is then sent to you for approval before production can begin.

For large orders, we offer a pre-production sample service for a fee of £25 (ex VAT). We produce a handful of your custom-printed cups to allow you to inspect them first-hand.

What file type or format do you need for the artwork?

The best file types or formats are editable PDF, AI, EPS or PSD files.

Depending on the quality and resolution, PNG or high-resolution JPEG files can also be acceptable.

It’s recommended to provide the files in the highest possible quality, as images may need to be traced. So, the larger the file, the better. We encourage clients to send the large files across using We Transfer which is free of charge.

Please avoid using low-resolution images, if they look blurry or pixelated when stretched, they will not print well.

For any text, it’s advisable to select a font and size that you like the look of, to ensure that you’re happy with the final outcome. Where possible, please outline the text as a vector so our design teams can apply it to the cups better.

How do I know if my artwork is suitable for printing?

When we send your artwork to the production and design team, they advise us if the artwork requires improving or amending. We will work with you as a team to overcome any artwork issues and ensure that your cups look as great as possible.

I don’t have artwork; how do I get help to create my artwork?

If you don’t have artwork in a print-ready file, a popular option is our artwork assistance service. We ask that you provide us with your design idea that we will develop into a bespoke print-ready design for just £35 (ex VAT) including 2 series of amendments.

Please note this service is non-refundable. Since we will be creating a custom design, you will therefore be invoiced for the service even if you do not place an order.

To purchase the artwork assistance service please use this link to find out more.

What size or measurement should the artwork be?

The printed area available for each printing style is as follows:

Full Colour

Pint: 209mm W x 154mm H  – Full Colour Pint Artwork Template

Half Pint: 180mm W x 108mm H – Full Colour Half Pint Artwork Template

What does IML stand for?

In-mould labelling (IML) is a process where plastic labels are used in the manufacturing of our cups by injection moulding. The label serves as an integral part of the final branded cups that are delivered to you as pre-decorated items.

Our labels are charged using electrostatic charging electrodes while they are transferred to the moulding machine. Once the label is placed on the tool and released by the labelling robot, it wraps around the cup mould, forming your branded cups.

CERTIFICATION – UKCA & CE
MARKED CUPS AND GLASSES

Can you print a UKCA or CE mark on the cups?

Of course, our cups are UKCA and CE marked to comply with licensing regulations. We strive to keep ourselves updated with any changes or updates to these guidelines. However, we recommend that you check and confirm the measurements at the time of ordering to ensure that they meet your requirements.

If you want lower priced cups without UKCA markings then contact us asking for our metric cup prices.

Do my glasses need to have a UKCA or CE mark?

It is a requirement of British and European Legislation to have the UKCA or CE mark stamped on festival glasses that are being used in licensed establishments such as bars, pubs, restaurants, and beer festivals. This ensures that the correct measured amount is being served and complies with laws on the service of alcohol.

The UKCA or CE measurement mark can be to the brim, or a line marked on the cup. The ‘M15’ stands for the year in which the UKCA or CE mark was applied. For example, at the time of writing this, we are now on ‘M24’ for 2024. The 4-digit number is the registration number for the government body that verified the UKCA or CE marking.

If you are using your glass as a measuring tool for serving alcohol such as beers, cider or lager, you need a UKCA or CE mark. However, if you are using the product at home or using an alternative approved measurement tool, then the glass doesn’t need a UKCA or CE mark.

Non-compliance with the requirements as detailed in Regulations and Orders made under the Weights and Measures Act 1985 and the Licensing Act 2003 at your festival or event could result in the forfeiture of equipment and prosecution. On conviction, the courts may impose a fine of up to £2,000. Breaches of licence conditions can lead to a licence review and revocation as well as a fine of up to £20,000.

To summarise, if you are selling alcohol within the UK or EU at a licensed festival event or stadium, your cups need to be UKCA or CE-marked to ensure compliance with legal requirements. For none commercial private events it’s fine to use cups without UKCA markings as long as the drinks aren’t being sold to a specific size or value.

Can you print brand names on the eco-cups?

Yes, we can and do print many brand names such as Stella Artois, Smirnoff, Fosters, Carling, Carlsberg, Hardys, Budweiser, Strongbow, Bulmers, Magners, Westons, Thatchers, Scrumpy Jacks, Pepsi or Coca-Cola. As long as you can provide written permission from the respective brand owner or are purchasing on behalf of your brand then we can custom print your logo.

Why is your order turnaround not quicker?

All of our products are custom-printed, so we cannot guarantee the same speed as Amazon.

The production, dispatch and delivery of your order will depend on the current volume of orders already in the production queue.

However, we are continuously working hard behind the scenes to streamline our processes to get your cups turned around and delivered as quickly as possible.

We work around the clock outside of regular office hours to ensure the best service possible and offer an express service for those who need it which has a 20% surcharge.

Will I be able to track my order?

We provide an estimated delivery date for every order. Our courier partner will then be in contact to advise of delivery either with a phone call, text or tracking link.

SAMPLES

Can I get a free sample cup?

Yes, you can order a sample from our sister site here. After you have received the sample and placed the official order, let us know that you ordered a sample, and we will credit the cost of the sample to ensure it has not cost you anything.

Why is there a fee if the sample is free?

The fee charged covers admin and delivery costs. If you place a subsequent order, we will gladly credit the fee for samples.

How long will my sample take?

We always aim to send out samples as soon as possible, but the delivery time may vary depending on the availability of stock. Generally, it should arrive within 2-5 working days. However, if you have a tight time scale or deadline, please do not wait for the sample to arrive before placing your order. In case you have been waiting for a while and still have not received the sample, please feel free to contact us again. Please note that we do not send samples via recorded delivery as it is not feasible.

What type of sample will I receive?

You will receive a sample of a cup we have previously made and will depend on what samples we have in stock at the time of order.

We will send samples to illustrate our cup and printing quality first-hand. Please do not assume your order will be an exact match as it depends on the printing option you choose.

The pre-production sample service for £25 (ex VAT) is a service where we produce a handful of bespoke printed cups with your actual design.

This gives you complete confidence when placing a larger order especially if you require sign-off from your colleagues. We highly recommend this if you are uncertain about the quality of our reusable printed cups or want to test out your artwork before the large order.

Contact us for more information or send your artwork to [email protected]

DISCOUNTS

Do you offer discounts for charity or students?

Unfortunately, we are unable to apply a discount to orders as it causes us lots of issues. This is because we believe in transparency and display our prices openly to all our clients and treat them equally.

Additionally, the products or services we offer do not qualify for a zero VAT rating for charities.

However, we are committed to supporting charities and have an ongoing partnership with One Tree Planted. We are grateful for your support in this effort and thank you in advance for your contributions.

DEPOSIT SYSTEM

How do I incorporate the deposit system at my event?

It’s very simple. Once you determine a deposit value, this is charged with every reusable cup your staff use to serve a customer. Then, customers who return their cups are given their deposit back.

Please click £1 Deposit Poster or £2 Deposit Poster for our free deposit system posters that we encourage clients to use.

If you have any questions, please Contact Us and we’ll gladly assist.

RENTING CUPS

How does renting cups work?

It’s very simple, we deliver your required number of cups to the delivery address provided. The cup usage is taken care of by you during the event(s) and we take care of the post-event collection and cleaning of cups.

Please visit our sister website’s Rental Cups Page for more information. Please note, that the minimum order for rental cups is usually 1,000 units.

WASHING

How many times can the cups be washed?

All our cups are high quality and built to last, meaning they can be washed hundreds of times.

They are dishwasher friendly and perfectly fine in regular dishwashers on standard settings.

The full-colour cups will not fade over time, but single-colour screen printed cups may fade slightly as you might expect.

Can Custom Cups wash the cups?

Yes! We offer a post-event washing service for your cups. To ensure that the cups are clean and dry for the next event, it is recommended to get them washed immediately after use and to schedule this service in advance, especially during busy periods.

Please note that due to the cost of transportation, we generally offer this service only for larger quantities of cups. If you are interested in this service, please contact us for a quote.

Does Custom Cups offer on-site washing?

No. Currently we collect the dirty cups from your event to be washed at our purpose-built facilities. This enables us to maintain high standard of hygiene and use sustainable machinery to reduce our carbon footprint.

Despite keeping a close eye on the quality of on-site washing machines on the market, we have not found any sustainable solution that meets our expectations.
